We want to know exactly what materials go into our LANGBRETT products and under what conditions they are made. That’s why we carefully select our raw materials and choose certified materials such as organic cotton, wool from controlled livestock farming and chrome-free tanned leather. We know our production partners personally and work closely with them. Wherever possible, we reuse offcuts and production leftovers, and we consider what should happen to the materials at the end of a product’s life as early as the design stage.
Like you, we’re part of a growing number of people who take a closer look at what they buy and choose to own fewer, well-made and long-lasting clothes and shoes.
Less, but better.
Circular by design
We hear the word “recycling” everywhere these days. But for many products, using the materials more than once is ruled out from the start. Composite materials, certain additives and complex manufacturing processes can make it difficult or even impossible to separate materials and reuse them individually.
That’s why we think about what should happen to our products at the end of their life as early as the design stage. We keep the construction of our shoes as simple as possible and choose materials that can be separated and, where possible, returned to the production cycle.
We’ve been working this way for a long time. Today, it’s called closed loop. To us, it means keeping existing materials in use for as long as possible and giving them a new life.
Materials with a purpose
Many of the materials used to make clothing and shoes can have an impact on the environment and our health, and are often difficult to reuse or recycle.
At LANGBRETT, we choose our materials carefully and use natural materials such as certified organic cotton, chrome-free tanned leather made from reclaimed materials, wool from controlled livestock farming and single-fibre yarns. We know where our raw materials come from and how and where they are processed. We also pay attention to the details, from metal eyelets and laces to zippers.
For us, making use of existing materials is an important part of how we approach raw materials. We draw on our experience, knowledge of materials and regular exchange with our producers to explore practical ways of recovering and reusing materials.
We developed and produced our shoes according to this principle: at the end of their life, the individual components can be separated by material and recycled.
Knowing where it comes from
Our products are made in small workshops in Germany, Portugal and Spain. We don’t rely on certifications alone – we go a step further. We know our entire supply chain and source every component ourselves, from shoelaces to metal eyelets. We know the people who make the tools for our shoes, speak regularly with the team at the sewing workshop and are there when the compounds for our shoe soles are mixed.
Our skateboards are handmade from locally sourced wood, our wool knitwear is made in a family-run workshop on the Lower Rhine, and our terry cloth clothing is produced at a dyeing facility with a closed water cycle. We keep the distances between the individual stages of production as short as possible, sometimes just a few minutes by car.
This is how we work to ensure the quality of our products, make their origins traceable and keep their impact on people, nature and animals as low as possible.
Design to last
Products that last a long time don’t need to be replaced as quickly. That’s why we design our products, select our materials and approach production with the aim of making our products usable for as long as possible. We don’t follow short-lived trends.
Our responsibility doesn’t end once a product has left the shop. With GUPPYFRIEND, the brand founded by LANGBRETT, we developed a guide to better washing – for less fibre abrasion and a longer life for your clothes.
And when one of our LANGBRETT products is no longer needed, we take it back and see what can be made of it.
